Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Colleen Stapley

I am proud to have been a Vandy Jayhawk for over 27 years! I have had the pleasure of teaching children of former students. This has been one of the remarkable rewards of being a part of this school district.

I hold dual Associate's degrees from Jackson Community College and I attended MSU and then received a Bachelor's Degree from Spring Arbor College. My graduate work was through Eastern Michigan University with a certification from Spring Arbor in Early Childhood Education. Initially I intended to become a marine biologist but fell in love with teaching and made that my career. Each year I share a unit on the ocean with my students as it is still something dear to my heart.

In May of 2013 I was honored as one of Jackson Magazine's Top Five Teachers of  the year. It was a truly touching and humbling honor. I was surrounded by some of Jackson County's finest teachers and will remember that day for the rest of my life. Teaching runs in my family. My father, sister and brother are all teachers. Along with teaching I enjoy writing grants and hope to encourage young children to become life long learners.

My own children share my love for books and writing. I try to pass this love for reading on to my students! We share chapter books like "Stuart Little" and "The Mouse and the Motorcycle". I always try to stop reading at an exciting part in the story so the children can't wait to return to the book. I love hearing them ask me to "please read just one more page"!

Thank you for visiting my teacher page. Have a wonderful year!
