Hello, students and families! I am excited to embark on this learning journey with you. In third grade, students will be encouraged to use a lot more reasoning, perspective, and analysis. Enthusiasm and a sunny outlook on life mark third grade for most children. It will be a pleasure getting to know each student, both as a person and a scholar.
In my many years of teaching, I have attended thousands of hours of continuing education in a variety of areas. For eight years, I was a Reading Recovery and literacy teacher, working with individuals and small groups of students to provide targeted instruction. More recently, I have become involved in both Math Academy and Changing the Equation Using Intel Math (CEIM), an intensive 80-hour training that provides teachers a deeper understanding of important mathematical ideas underlying K-8 mathematics. As part of this training, I have taken part in monthly Mathematics Learning Community meetings to share information discerned through CEIM with colleagues.
There will be many opportunities this school year for my students to shine, both academically and socially. Not only will we develop our skills as deep thinkers, we will continue to develop our character. I look forward to being your teacher!
