Welcome to Vandercook Lake Middle / High School

Our School
Vandercook Lake Middle School/High School takes pride in providing a great education and opportunity to grow for approximately 300 students in 6th through 12th grade. The building administration consists of Principal Dr. Marcelo Leonardi and Athletic Director/Dean of Students Nick Spagnol. Your students will be exposed to many of the best classroom teachers the state of Michigan has to offer, as well as online schooling through My Virtual Academy. We go to great lengths to support students both in and out of the classroom through our special education, counseling, and social work services.
Our elective choices set us a part from other schools. While we offer most of the same courses as other schools do like art, gym, band, and AP courses, students at Vandy submit surveys to determine what courses will be taught the following year. Students this year can choose our Outdoor Rec course where they will learn archery, tapping maple trees to make syrup, or earn an FAA certificate to fly drones! Students could also choose our Sports Officiating course where they will learn 4-5 sports and be able to get paid to ref middle school sports! Students could choose Pottery where they will learn about the history of making bowls and create their own designs for a special fundraiser in Jackson. Students could choose guitar where they'll learn how to play and be back up for the choir students! The possibilities are endless but the bottom line is, we want our students to want to be here, at Vandercook Lake.
High school students have the opportunity to be part of the ISD Career Center, Dual Enrollment at Jackson College, or elect for Early College, which is a 13th year of high school that equips students with an Associates Degree for free!
Our students are supported by the following professionals: guidance counselor, social worker, behavior intervention specialist, police officer, 5 kitchen staff, 5 custodians, 3 secretaries, 8 bus/van drivers, ISD special education social worker, ISD psychologist, and ISD special education teacher consultant.
In addition to supporting our students academic and mental health, we have on site our Jayhawk Exchange and Food Pantry. Vandercook Lake students and their families have access to both anytime they need. The Jayhawk Exhange has clothing and hygiene supplies. Clothing is new or gently used/donated clothes that we wash on site. It's set up like a department store ready for our Jayhawks to shop! The Food Pantry is available anytime; however, we do offer at least three special holiday giveaways complete with fresh foods for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter feasts!
Our community involvement is important to us. We have partnered with Area 517 Volleyball to offer an indoor adult volleyball league. If you're looking for a free way to get healthy, we offer free use of our fitness center. We'll post those days/hours on our Facebook page.
