Dear Vandercook Lake Families and Community,
I want to take a moment to update you regarding an incident that occurred during Thursday night’s home football game against Sand Creek.
During the game, Vandercook Lake administration was alerted by students that three juveniles in attendance were possibly in possession of a weapon. Deputy Shackelford, who was on duty at the game, attempted to make contact with the individuals. The juveniles fled into the woods northeast of the football field, and a Sheriff K9 unit was called in to assist with locating them.
The juveniles were tracked and apprehended near Park Road and Francis Street in Summit Township. No weapon was located. The individuals were identified, trespassed from all Vandercook Lake School District property, and returned home by the officers.
We want to assure our families and community that the safety of our students, staff, and guests remains our highest priority. We are grateful to the students who quickly reported their concerns, as well as to law enforcement for their swift response and assistance in resolving the situation.
